The Wild Coast is exactly that … a coast of wild seas and rugged wilderness.  Also known as the Transkei, the Wild Coast is approximately a 250km stretch of craggy unspoilt coastline stretching from East London in the Eastern Cape through to Port Edward in KwaZulu Natal.  The Jikeleza Route links the Wild Coast and the Sunshine Coast.

 

The Wild Coast consists of green rolling hills, thatched rondavels, quaint villages and friendly locals – a perfect example of rural South Africa.

 

There is no shortage of hiking and biking routes along the coast which could in fact be undertaken at any time of the year as the climate along the Wild Coast is mild even during winter.  The high vantage points along the coastline make it an ideal spot for whale watching during season.

 

Fishing is another excellent favourite with anglers as there are great fishing opportunities both in the estuaries as well as in the rivers and deep-sea fishing.  Cows relaxing on the beaches are a regular sight, they are very approachable and not bothersome to sunbathers on the beach.
