Welcome to The Spotted Grunter Resort in Port St Johns on the Wild Coast of the Eastern Cape! Sheltered by Mt. Thesiger behind us and Mt. Sullivan across the river, our resort is a piece of heaven! The two sandstone mountains form the heads of the river mouth that flows into the Indian Ocean.

Port St. Johns, with its three beaches, is known for it's success for fishing for the likes of Grunter, Shad, Kob, Garrick, and even sharks. The epitome of a perfect location for fishing, nestled flawlessly next to the Umzimvubu River, the piece of heaven became The Spotted Grunter Resort.

 

The Spotted Grunter Accommodation

Our beautifully decorated luxury log cabins can comfortably accommodate a total of 65 people in the resort. Each cabin has a perfectly equipped kitchenette, braai area with private deck and secure parking. 

There are 4, 5 and 6 sleeper log cabins, which encompass a fully equipped kitchenette and bathroom with gas-heated water showers. Cabins each have open plan lounges with TVs(selected DStv channels), dining room areas, single bunk beds, a double bed and a sleeper couch. Bedrooms include a double bed or two single beds.

Cabins are equipped with microwave ovens, gas stoves, air-cons, fans, heaters, fridges, cutlery and crockery. Bath towels and toiletries are provided in each cabin, as well as valuable safes to protect your possessions while you enjoy yourself during your stay at the resort. We also supply tea, coffee, sugar and creamer in all the cabins.

At the Spotted Grunter, there are four different types of accommodation available, based on each customer’s individual needs and preferences.

• Full Board on prior arrangement

Restaurant & Bar

The Anglers Arms Bar is a fully licensed watering hole, with a comprehensive variety of beverages and snacks. The bar also includes a pool table and darts board, with a large TV so you don’t miss your favouite sports game! On occasion, the bar hosts live music and entertainment.

Our Restaurant serves a diverse selection of dishes, which can be enjoyed inside or on the deck overlooking the rest of the resort and the picturesque Umzimvubu river.

Bait and Tackle Shop

A fully stocked bait and tackle shop provides all you need for a fishing getaway at the Spotted Grunter resort, with braai supplies for an evening on the deck of your cabin. Wood, charcoal, firelighters, braai packs, ice and a selection of snacks and cold drinks is also available from reception.

Activities

Guests can canoe up the river, go river fishing, or enjoy a relaxing sundowner river cruise along the ‘place of the hippopotamus’. Guests can also enjoy swimming in the pool at the resort on a hot day.

We have a 19 ft deep sea fishing charter, G-Spot. The boat can take a maximum of 5 people excluding the skipper and offers both 5 hour and 8 hour charters. You will need to bring a valid fishing licence. This can be purchased at any post office in South Africa. 

The Spotted Grunter Resort welcomes all, and our peaceful environment also accommodates pets with a wheelchair friendly cabin as well.
