Gonubie
Geography and History
Gonubie is a small seaside village about 15 minutes drive from East London on the sunshine coast of the Eastern Cape in South Africa. The name Gonubie is said to be derived from Khoekhoen and means ‘bramble river’.
Activities
Gonubie is known for its Board Walk that stretches from Gonubie point to the main swimming beach, which is next to the Gonubie river mouth.
Enjoy the most spectacular view while strolling along the Board Walk and tidal pool.
For the bird lovers there is the Gonubie Bird Sanctuary which is home to over 160 bird species, including the Crowned Crane, which can often be seen walking along the roads in Gonubie.
For golf lovers there is the Gonubie Golf Club, for keen anglers there is a long stretch of shore to choose from and hiking trails for those whom love to walk.
Gonubie also offers restaurants, shops, a Laundromat and much more.
Be sure to visit the East London Aquarium, East London Zoo and the East London Museum, which is famous for the coelacanth.
