Geography and History

Haga Haga is a quaint holiday village along the beautiful Eastern Cape Wild Coast. It is renowned for its tranquillity and natural beauty.  Haga Haga is situated on the Indian Ocean about 70Km North of East London in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa. Other towns close to Haga Haga are Morgans Bay and Kei Mouth.

Activities

Haga Haga has a safe swimming beach along the warm waters of the Indian Ocean and a beautiful lagoon. Try your luck at rock and surf fishing while your children collect shells or play in the protected waters of the lagoon. Fancy some golf, a game of tennis or exploring the area on horseback?

The village and its immediate surrounds is a declared nature and marine conservancy owing to an abundance of indigenous fauna and flora species. These include, amongst others, the Cape Clawless Otter and the Blue Duiker, Millwood trees, Wild Irises, Gladiolus, Hibiscus and Orchids. More than 300 indigenous wildflower species have been positively identified and many more still requires identification.

If you’re a birdwatcher, then you’ll be fascinated by the abundance of birdlife which includes Narina Trogons, Long Crested Eagles, Fish Eagles, Forest Weavers and Woodpeckers, African Black Oyster Catchers, Water Dikkops, Greenshanks, Kingfishers and many Plover species.

See the whales that visit Haga Haga from July to early December and share in the excitement of dolphin-spotting in the azure East Coast waters.

Put on you hiking boots and explore the various hiking trails that traverse the conservancy – the Krantz Garden Walk to Pullins Bay, the Otter Creek Walk and walks to Whale Point and Lagoon Look-Out. Tackle the 10 km trail along the beach to Double Mouth where you can collect pieces of Ming China and carnelian beads washed up from a sunken ship.

The village has a hotel, shop, library, a small museum and an excellent library. Other nearby attractions include the Haga Haga Hotel, Miarestate Game Reserve, Hotel & Spa and the Haga Haga Nature Reserve.

Accommodation in Haga Haga includes holiday-resorts, hotel, guest houses, B&B's, self-catering-apartments, self-catering-chalets, camping and much more!
